Parents Pick Sim Only Deals for Kids

At the start of the new school year many children are moving up into secondary school and taking on new levels of freedom as well as responsibility and experts say that parents who buy their kids mobile phones when they hit 11 or 12 years old tend to go for sim only pay as you go deals to keep costs low.

Many industry insiders contributed their thoughts to an article in the Guardian and the number one reason for parents wanting to give their kids a mobile phone is so that they can keep in touch when they are making their way to and from school, allowing the child to separate from the direct watch of the parent whilst maintaining an all-important lifeline of communication.

Of course the issue with giving a child a mobile phone is that they cost money and if parents opt to put their kids on a contract deal, they will have free reign to eat up all of the inclusive minutes, access the internet and leave a dent in the elder's wallet at the end of the month. It is for this reason that many choose sim only plans which operate on a pay as you go basis, which means parents have direct control over the amount of credit a child can access from day to day.

Cheap sim free mobiles are also high on the back to school shopping lists, with many options costing less than £20 and therefore reducing the impact of a loss, theft or breakage that the child may suffer. Tesco's recent announcement of its £6 pay monthly sim only deal has also given parents a cheap option for their kids, as it is a low monthly price that has the flexibility of allowing for inclusive texting and minutes without being restricted by a credit limit.
