Although Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has not officially unveiled the upcoming HTC Desire HD smartphone, online retailer Amazon let slip information on its SIM free UK pricing.

Amazon briefly listed the HTC Desire HD on its UK website this week, before quickly pulling the page which was presumably enabled by accident. The site priced a SIM free edition of the Desire HD at £415, which is news that will help to build the hype surrounding the Android smartphone to a fever pitch.

The original HTC Desire has been a very popular mobile in the months since its launch, winning critical plaudits as well as high sales volumes and now the Desire HD is set to update the hardware and software in an entirely new package.

The Desire HD will allegedly sport a 4.3 inch display and on the rear an eight megapixel camera will provide facilities to shoot high definition video clips in 720p. Inside a 1GHz processor is said to reside, which means that it will be about as powerful as the original Desire, but with all of the benefits of Android 2.2.

It seems sensible to opt for SIM free Android-based mobiles because the network providers are sluggish at releasing updates to Google's popular platform once they have been made available.

Recently Vodafone and several other UK networks have been criticised for taking an inordinate amount of time to launch an Android 2.2 update for their network-associated Desire smartphones, while those who had opted for a SIM free model received the update as soon as HTC carried out its official launch.

The HTC Desire HD is rumoured to be arriving on September 15th, when HTC is allegedly planning to unveil the smartphone to the world at a press event in London. This has yet to be confirmed, but SIM free fanatics will probably be able to buy in at the low price of around £415.
