A smartphone created by Porsche Design has gone on sale in Harrods, sim free, for a premium price of £1,275.

The handset has been manufactured by Research in Motion (RIM) and, as such, it falls into the BlackBerry family, but the P'9981 is definitely a step above its peers when it comes to prestige, if not functionality.

Blackberry PorscheThe P'9981 runs version 7 of the BlackBerry operating system and given its links to an automotive designer, it is unsurprising to see metal used to adorn the exterior of this stylish mobile.

Leather detailing on the back echoes the leather seats that you might find in a typical Porsche and many elements of the phone have been handmade to give it that bespoke feeling.

The processing power of the sim free BlackBerry P'9981 is decent if not quite as spectacular as the price might otherwise suggest. You get a single core 1.2GHz chip and a camera on the rear, which can record high definition video clips.

The user interface is customised to showcase exclusive Porsche Design elements and there is 8GB of internal storage space on which you can keep your applications, files and media content.

Like many modern BlackBerry handsets, you get a full physical QWERTY keypad, as well as a 2.8 inch touch sensitive display, so there are plenty of ways to interact with your mobile for the purposes of business and pleasure.

Because this is a BlackBerry, it is safe to assume that it will be particularly good at handling email functionality, so enterprise customers who want to stand out from the crowd might be interested in making an investment.

There is no word as to whether the BlackBerry P'9981 will be available online or whether it is a Harrods exclusive, but at £1275 sim free, it will definitely appeal to an affluent audience.
